How Anyone Can Get Their Next Dental Check Up for Just $14!

Most people know how important preventative dental care is but sometimes we just can't afford to pay for regular check ups and any necessary oral health maintenance we may need.

Before I go on I think it's worth recapping exactly what a good preventative dental care program should entail.

According to the American Dental Association we should all:

1 Brush our teeth twice a day with an ADA accepted fluoride toothpaste

2 Replace our toothbrush every 3 to 4 months, or sooner if the bristles are frayed

3 Clean between our teeth daily with floss or an inter-dental cleaner

4 Eat a balanced diet, and limit soft drinks and between-meal snacks

5 Visit our dentist regularly for professional cleanings and oral exams

When it comes to the health of your teeth, prevention and early detection are the keys for keeping more serious dental treatments and therefore your expenses to a minimum.

Brushing and flossing helps to remove plaque and keeps your teeth looking and feeling cleaner.

We all know that a healthy low sugar diet is good for us and also helps to keep our teeth and gums in good shape, but in the real world, nearly all of us find it impossible to maintain such a healthy diet.

Routine dental examinations and regular professional cleanings help to keep higher cost treatments such as fillings, root canals and extractions to a minimum, but we all know that such visits to the dentist can be expensive.

There is no definitive right or wrong when it comes to how often you should visit your dentist, but according to experts the time frame should be anywhere between once every three months to once a year. My own thoughts are the frequency should vary from person to person. I believe visits should be determined by your current dental health and your risk factors for dental or oral disease.

How much does a regular oral check up exam normally cost?

It's impossible to put an exact figure on it because dental fees vary from State to State, but if I use the national average, I find the cost of an oral exam is $47.

It is also recommended that you get your teeth professionally cleaned at the same time; again, based on the national average, this will cost you an additional $85.

So a dental check up and getting your teeth cleaned will cost you about $132. Given that you should probably do this twice a year, your annual cost will be around $264, assuming no other treatments are required!

What most people don't know!

What you probably don't know is you can get the exact same services for around $43 per visit, or an annual cost of just $86. That's a huge saving of $178, or put another way 67%! (All figures based on national averages)

How?

What more than 10 million Americans have already discovered is a something called a Discount Dental Plan. Discount Dental Plans work through a network of dentists that agree to reduce the cost of their services to plan members. The plan sets a fee schedule for all dental procedures on a State by State basis. (Savings to plan members can be as big as 70%, or even a little more.)

There are a lot of companies out there offering affordable discount dental plans for individuals and families, however, there are a few things it is very important to check before you enroll in a plan:

1 Does the plan have a sufficient number of participating dentists in your area? (Any plan that will not provide this information upfront should be avoided at all costs)

2 An individual plan should not cost more than $9 per month and household coverage should not cost more than $20 per month.

3 The cost of procedures. A reputable plan will happily provide you with a full fee schedule for your State before you enroll. If they don't it is likely you will find some nasty surprises down the road. (Do not base your decision on national averages costs because costs vary from State to State)

Discount Dental Plans can save you up to 70% on dental procedures. They do not have waiting periods and all types of oral healthcare are covered, including diagnostic, preventative, restorative, endodontics, periodontics, prosthodontics, oral surgery, orthodontics and adjunctive services.

The other benefit worth noting is there is no annual limit; discount dental plan members can use their card as much as they need without restriction.

Finally, if you have a dental emergency don't despair because when you become a member of a dental discount plan you get immediate coverage!

Is it any wonder that more than 10 million Americans are now using affordable money saving discount dental plans to look after family dental care?
